centered through the holidays

Hello on this Halloween eve! I thought I would talk about something that I have been thinking about the last few days as we head into the Holiday Season. It always seems like once Halloween comes and goes—so does the rest of the year. It’s when the hustle and bustle starts. It’s when added activities are present above and beyond our normal daily lives.

There are 61 days left in 2022. I will ask you the same question I asked myself today as I was walking my puppy dog.

How do you want to show up the rest of this year?

I invite you to think about the next two months.

Be realistic.

What do you have planned?

Maybe look at your calendar or jot down your tentative schedule.

Are you traveling for the Holidays?

Are you staying home?

Are the Holidays hard emotionally for you?

Are they a time when you forget all of your other goals because you have so much going on?

In one word—what is the feeling you want to feel on January 1st 2023 as you look back on to the last 61 days? What is the one word that describes how you want to show up for yourself through the Holiday Season. The word I picked is CENTERED.

When I am centered:

I am calm.

I am collected.

I am anchored in spirit and in mind.

I am balanced.

I am focused.

I am at peace.

I am authentic and true to myself.

I am in my intrinsic rhythm.

I am strong.

I am balanced in the midst of whatever is going on around me.

For I know that I am with myself at all times. I am with myself 24/7 until the day I die and it is MY JOB to take care of me emotionally—spiritually—physically. And when I am centered, I am doing just that.

So how does a person become centered?

1. Take time daily to breathe, meditate, pray or just sit in a quiet space being mindfully present and connecting to your breath and heartbeat.

2. Focus on the moment. Limit distractions and be present for the moment you are currently living.

3. Be aware of your emotional state and take time to pause when you are feeling out of balance. If you don’t get rebalanced, you will continue to carry these unbalanced emotions on to the next day or event.

4. Pause and acknowledge all your senses. What do you see? Feel? Smell? Taste? Hear? Being aware in this way fosters a sense of mindfulness as well as gratitude.

5. Engage in self-care activities.

6. Set limits and boundaries if needed.

7. Give yourself grace. This is an important one. We are not perfect 100% of the time. We are human! Don’t beat yourself up

Living a CENTERD life is a learned action. It is not something that comes naturally. Be intentional. Check in with yourself several times daily and ask yourself how you are feeling right now. This is a beautiful gift you can give yourself this holiday season.
